NEW YORK—A groundbreaking “Back-to-Normal Barometer” survey for the first time finds 61% of Americans agree with the concern that the U.S. could be on the verge of another Civil War. Additionally, 52% of consumers have also stockpiled food or essential goods in anticipation of social unrest tied to a resurgence of COVID-19 in the coming months and/ or the election.
Within the 61% of Americans who believe that the U.S. could be on the verge of another Civil War, 40% strongly agree and 21% somewhat agree. Additionally, 16% somewhat disagree and 23% strongly disagree.
“This is the single most frightening poll result I’ve ever been associated with,” said Rich Thau, President ofEngagious, one of the three firms—along with the Sports and Leisure Research Group and ROKK Solutions—that conducted the survey.
The heightened concern over Civil War is most acute at the political extremes with 52% very liberal, 52% very conservative, 32% somewhat liberal, 34% moderate and 35% somewhat conservative who believe this statement.
Those who plan to stockpile, or have already stockpiled, food or other essential goods are dominated by those who lie at the political extremes. 65% of those who identify as very liberal and 57% who are very conservative plan to do so. This compares to 46% who are somewhat liberal, 45% who are somewhat conservative and 49% who are moderate.

Pelosi is trying to remove Trump with the 25th Amendment over a joke!

The 25th Amendment addresses the removal of a president from office for incapacity due to health or other reasons.
Bartiromo commented during her interview with Trump that she was amazed he was “back in such strong form.”
“How did that happen?” she asked, then noting his treatment with Regeneron, which the president described on Wednesday as a “cure.”
Trump, responded clearly tongue-in-check, saying, “I’m back because I’m a perfect physical specimen.

NYC Democrat Mayor DeBlasio announced closures of non-essential businesses for "at least 14 days" in areas of the city starting on Thursday. The rules affect hundreds of thousands of residents.
The closures and new rules will be in designated 'red zones" in Brooklyn and Queens. He has also set up "orange zones" with other rules in communities that surround the red zones.
De Blasio also announced increased fines for non-compliance of COVID-19 rules.
Fines for mass gatherings in the affected areas will be up to $15,000. The fines for not social distancing or refusing to wear a mask will be up to $1,000.

Portland police have referred almost 1,000 protest-related cases to the Multnomah District Attorney’s Office since late May and prosecutors have declined to file charges in nearly 70 percent of them, according to an online tracking dashboard unveiled Wednesday.
Prosecutors have so far fielded 974 criminal cases against people in the ongoing demonstrations against racial injustice and police use of force.
They have dropped 666 of them without filing charges, data provided by the office shows.
Prosecutors have issued charges in 95 felony and 33 misdemeanor cases, according to the dashboard. Another 182 cases remain under review.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reviewed the cases behind the online dashboard and found:
Prosecutors actually have dropped even more cases than the dashboard shows.
The District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday that it has issued felony or misdemeanor charges in 128 protest cases through Oct. 5. But court records show prosecutors have subsequently decided to drop all charges in at least 22 of these cases, some that have included allegations of riot, burglary and unlawful use of a weapon.

Sen. Kamala Harris of California attempted to rewrite history with regard to President Abraham Lincoln during Wednesday night’s vice presidential debate in Salt Lake City.
Harris put on a dreadful debate performance, as she was thrown off balance numerous times by Vice President Mike Pence, who held Harris accountable for the plans she and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden have for the country and the judiciary, should voters choose them next month.
The debate’s moderator, Susan Page, is the Washington bureau chief for USA Today and the author of a biography about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which is set for release next year.
Despite the evident conflicts of interest for the D.C. reporter and author, the supposedly nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates tapped her to moderate the event.
Page did a much better job than Fox News host Chris Wallace did while moderating last week’s first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Biden.
“Are you and Joe Biden going to pack the court if Amy Coney Barrett is confirmed?” Pence pressed Harris.
Added the VP, “Your party is actually openly advocating adding seats to the Supreme Court, which has had nine seats for 150 years, if you don’t get your way.”
Harris refused to answer the court-packing question, and instead attempted to invoke some imaginary history of her own to fit the narrative she’d like voters to buy.
Harris said that in October of 1864, President Abraham Lincoln would not choose a nominee for Chief Justice Roger Taney because, with a national electon approaching in the midst of the Civil War, “Honest Abe said, ‘It’s not the right thing to do.’”“The American people deserve to make the decision about who will be the next president of the United States, and then that person can select who will serve for a lifetime on the highest court of our land,” Harris said.
Lincoln did not send a nominee to the Senate in October of 1864, that much is true.
That’s because the Senate was out of session until December of that election year, so Lincoln was forced to wait to nominate a successor for Taney.
Salmon P. Chase was nominated to replace Taney on Dec. 6, 1864, and was confirmed by the Senate nine days later on Dec. 15, 1864, according to the Supreme Court Historical Society.
Chase would serve as chief justice until his death in 1873. Lincoln filled the vacancy at the first possible instant.
