Trump’s plan calls for expanded coronavirus testing throughout the United States so that counties can categorized as high, medium or low risk.

Americans are good folks who are doing the social distancing for their communities and for themselves and their loved ones!
People appear to be doing their part to fight the spread of the coronavirus by practicing some social distancing, and 8 in 10 are ready to do even more by sheltering in place. “Americans,” said the latest Gallup survey, have “stepped up their already considerable efforts to engage in social distancing in response to the novel coronavirus.” Gallup gauged social distancing in the United States and found that 96% are practicing some form of it. Some 64% are completely or mostly isolated, and only 4% said that they “did not make any attempt to isolate yourself from people outside your household.” The Gallup team also asked about the likelihood of staying home for a month if public health officials recommended it to slow the virus outbreak. Some 82% said they were likely to follow the recommendation, with 58% “very likely.”

Service Employees International Union United Healthcare Workers West announced Thursday that it located 39 million N95 masks and will make them available to state and local governments and health care systems that are fighting the novel coronavirus outbreak. The union found a distributor with the masks, which are cleared for surgical use, after pleas from health care workers as new coronavirus cases surge across the state and the country as a whole.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo acknowledged Friday the state did have a stockpile of unused ventilators, despite his complaints the federal government was not sending enough.
Cuomo responded to a comment from President Donald Trump on Twitter that there were thousands of ventilators in New York not being used.
“Yes, they’re in a stockpile because that’s where they are supposed to be, because we don’t need them yet,” Cuomo said. “We need them for the apex, the apex isn’t here, so we’re gathering them in a stockpile.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said early this week that anyone from New York or New Jersey flying into Florida would have to undergo a 14-day quarantine. Thousands of people from the area flew to Florida after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a stay-at-home order earlier this month, according to DeSantis. Florida is threatening up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine for anyone who violates the mandatory quarantine.
Now other states are following suit, including Texas, Arkansas, and Rhode Island.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive ordermandates a two-week quarantine for nyone flying into his state from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or New Orleans.
“Each person covered under this order to self-quarantine shall be responsible for all associated costs, including transportation, lodging, food, and medical care,” the order states.
Abbott cited public health experts on the White House coronavirus task force, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has called for quarantines of travelers from New York so the state does not act as a “seeding point to the rest of the country.”
White House officials repeatedly said this week that anyone from New York City or surrounding areas who has already traveled outside the region should self-isolate until two weeks have elapsed since they left.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said that anyone traveling from the New York City region must isolate for two weeks after arriving in the state while South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster asked any visitor who plans to stay in the state for at least two nights to quarantine for two weeks.
“Any Marylander, or anyone visiting Maryland who has recently spent time in New York or visited the tri-state area must quarantine in place and limit contact with others for at least 14 days,” Hogan said at a press conference on Monday.
Hawaii and Alaska have both implemented quarantines for travelers from anywhere in attempts to prevent the spread of the virus in the states. Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced the measures even for Alaska residents returning from other locales.
Anyone who breaks the quarantine in Hawaii will face up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $5,000, officials said.
State police in Rhode Island will enforce an executive order signed by Gov. Gina Raimondo mandating anyone entering the state from New York enter quarantine for two weeks. The order includes people arriving in cars, buses, or trains, unlike most other orders from states further away.

President Donald Trump said Thursday his administration will make the malaria drug chloroquine available “almost immediately” to treat the COVID-19 infection, but it will only be available under the “compassionate use” program until the drug undergoes a clinical trial under the FDA’s directive.

A huge IBM supercomputer known as 'Summit' was tasked by Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers with finding a potential cure to COVID-19 Researchers in the United States say they now have a list of drugs that could work to bind to the virus and prevent it from injecting cells.
The study concluded: 'We hypothesize the identified small-molecules may be repurposed to limit viral recognition of host cells and/or disrupt host-virus interactions.'
Further experimental testing on the identified list of compounds is now required to determine whether any of them can be used to create a treatment for the virus.
Co-author of the research Jeremy Smith said the supercomputer allowed the team to sift through a huge collection of data in a short period of time.
'Summit was needed to rapidly get the simulation results we needed. It took us a day or two whereas it would have taken months on a normal computer,' Smith said.

Seriously sick coronavirus patients in New York state’s largest hospital system are being given massive doses of vitamin C — based on promising reports that it’s helped people in hard-hit China, The Post has learned.
Dr. Andrew G. Weber, a pulmonologist and critical-care specialist affiliated with two Northwell Health facilities on Long Island, said his intensive-care patients with the coronavirus immediately receive 1,500 milligrams of intravenous vitamin C.
The regimen is based on experimental treatments administered to people with the coronavirus in Shanghai, China, Weber said.
“The patients who received vitamin C did significantly better than those who did not get vitamin C,” he said.
“It helps a tremendous amount, but it is not highlighted because it’s not a sexy drug.” A spokesman for Northwell — which operates 23 hospitals, including Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side — said vitamin C was being “widely used” as a coronavirus treatment throughout the system, but noted that medication protocols varied from patient to patient.
As of Tuesday, New York hospitals have federal permission to give a cocktail of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to desperately ill patients on a “compassionate care” basis.
