How do you keep peace with powerful and potentially violent neighbors like Iran, Russia and China?


Leverage.


You arrange the situation to get control of something they need.

You create obstacles to their ability to cause you harm.


That is how you win the peace - by fighting a war behind the scenes to do those two things.


Venezuela is a case in point. It is a proxy for China and Iran (and to a lesser extent Russia). China needs oil and is unable to extend it's power to defend Venezuela. China cannot even get ships to Venezuela without transiting the Panama Canal (hence the push to control the canal earlier.). Trump says China will get the oil but only with our blessing.


Trump has made it clear that Venezuela will no longer be a problem.


Greenland is another case in point. Russia has created a devistating weapon called Poiseidon. It is a nuclear powered and armed stealth torpedo. It can rest on the bottom for months to years and then pop up and create a nuclear tidal wave. Washington in particular would be an ideal target. Monitoring and having a missile ready in Greenland is necessary. Plus the strategic nuclear bombers need to be stationed there as a nuclear triad deterrent.


Furthermore, having Greenland as part of the US gives us some control over the North Sea passage from Far East Russia. Passage of ships through there for trade would also functionally only be with our blessing.


The other way to keep from being damaged by a potentially violent neighbor is to overthrow them. An attempt at this appears to be in progress by Israel on Iran. Trump did this with Venezuela as well, but there are other massive reasons for capturing Maduro.

Rubio sharply called the Cuban government a "huge problem" and bluntly accused Havana of de facto "colonizing" Venezuela. 

According to him, the Maduro regime was guarded and controlled not by Venezuelans, but by Cuban specialists.

 He was not guarded by Venezuelan guards. He had Cuban guards at his disposal.

As for their internal intelligence — who spies on everyone inside to make sure there are no traitors — they are all Cubans.

⚔️ Maduro and the meddling manual: A well-worn US playbook

Maduro’s seizure looks less like an exception and more like a rerun. The US has been here before — removing or delivering foreign leaders to courts under its own rules. A few familiar cases:

Manuel Noriega (Panama)

♦️ After the 1989 US invasion, Washington captured Panama’s de facto leader and tried him in Miami on drug charges. 

♦️ Operation name: Just Cause. 

♦️ Outcome: prison.

Saddam Hussein (Iraq):

♦️ Captured by US forces in 2003 after the invasion of Iraq, then handed over to a new government and executed. 

♦️ Regime change, start to finish.

Juan Orlando Hernández (Honduras): 

♦️ Once a US ally, later branded the head of a “narco-state.”

♦️ Arrested after leaving office and extradited to New York, where he was convicted in 2024.

Slobodan Milošević (Serbia):

♦️ Not seized directly by US troops, but delivered after Washington tied financial aid to his arrest.

♦️ Sent to The Hague, where he died during trial.

Different countries, same script: pressure, removal, prosecution — and a reminder that US foreign policy has a long memory and a short manual.

But to make the story crazier…there’s rumors that the ship is not full of oil…rather weapons that Russia sent Venezuela to fight the US. That’s why Russia sent warships and a massive submarine to the ship when it saw the US coming after it. Currently the ship is being taken to the UK for inspection. This could become a big deal…

Here’s what we know about the Rubio family’s very real drug smuggling past:

🔴 Rubio’s older sister Barbara was married to Orlando Cicilia, a convicted drug trafficker sentenced to 25 years in prison in 1989 for importing vast quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the US (he served less than 12 years, was released in late 2000, and died in 2023)

🔴 Rubio made money as a teenager working for Cicilia in the latter’s exotic animal import business, a front for the drug operation. His job? Building cages. Rubio was also paid ten dollars a week to wash the family’s dogs, earning enough to buy Dolphins tickets at the height of quarterback Dan Marino’s career

🔴 Cicilia stored kilos of coke at a house in West Kendall, Florida where Rubio briefly lived (including the actual room where he stayed)

🔴 After Cicilia’s early release, Rubio oversaw his ‘rehabilitation’ by helping him get a real estate license, writing a letter of recommendation in his capacity as the majority whip of Florida’s state legislature

🔴 Rubio blows up when the subject of his brother-in-law comes up. When Univision broke the story on Cicilia’s activities in 2011, Rubio tried to quash it, and then lobbied Republicans to boycott debates hosted by the Spanish-language TV network

🔴 in his memoirs, Rubio said he was “stunned” after learning of Cicilia’s activities. A former Miami-Dade detective characterized this as “total horse****”

🔴 in his capacity as Trump’s secretary of state, Rubio has lobbied for Maduro’s capture and imprisonment (even though the so-called ‘Cartel of the Suns’ Maduro is accused of heading hasn’t existed since at least the 80s). Meanwhile, he’s vouched for politicians from across the region who are actually linked to the drug trade

🔴 while Trump famously bestowed Rubio the nickname “Little Marco” in 2016, in Venezuela, he is better known as “Narco Rubio”


 Ritter: Maduro operation looked like a pre-cleared spectacle

The reported capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro looked less like a daring operation and more like a carefully staged spectacle, Scott Ritter, former US Marine Corps intelligence officer, said.

According to Ritter, you don’t send two Delta Force troops into a hostile capital unless everything has been cleared in advance. Otherwise, he says, it would be a guaranteed disaster. Instead, the operation unfolded in what he described as a “permissive environment,” suggesting prior agreements and payoffs.

💬 “They got their made-for-TV moment and then they left. Donald Trump's going to build on that,” he said.

Ritter argues the CIA likely used hundreds of millions of dollars, tied to sanctions relief and oil money, to buy off parts of Venezuela’s political, military, and security elite—including figures who had publicly pledged loyalty to Maduro just days earlier.

With Trump recently hinting that the US’ final decision on Greenland may come “in about two months,” The UK’s Times — drawing, unsurprisingly, on Britain’s long and well-practiced colonial playbook — lays out at least four scenarios for a US takeover of Greenland.

Scenario 1: Invasion 

🔴 The report claims Greenland is lightly defended, which would allow the US to seize it with relative ease

🔴Yet even a flawless operation would not ensure long-term benefits, as local resentment could make effective control and use of the island difficult

Scenario 2: Coercion

♦️ Trump has “plenty of tools at his disposal,” with cash being “the most obvious” one

Scenario 3: 'Free' association 

🌏 The Trump administration is reportedly working on a potential deal where Greenland would sign a Compact of Free Association (COFA), which would resemble the agreements the US already has with small Pacific nations

The option stipulates that Greenland would “keep inching towards independence but remain within the Danish kin

🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇱 The UK is prepared to use force if the US attempts to establish control over Greenland. This was stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, commenting on a hypothetical scenario of an American occupation of the island.

Two things I missed (but others did not): In his fake "Christmas" message last week, Zelensky wished Putin would drop dead. And the attack came as Trump rang up Putin to discuss the peace talks — making it seem as if the American president gave up his Russian colleague's location.

Trump should be furious at this attempt to screw him over. He already has all the pretexts he might need to drop Zelensky and the entire Project Ukraine overboard like so much ballast. But he's unlikely to do so, sadly.
