Sloly's resignation comes as sources tell CBC News he's been accused of bullying and volatile behaviour that has damaged relations with senior leadership and compromised the force's ability to cope with the truck protest.
Multiple sources have told CBC News that Sloly allegedly belittled and berated senior Ottawa Police Service officers in front of their colleagues, and has failed to put forward a solid operations plan to end the crisis.
Sources say he allegedly has come into conflict with members of the OPP and RCMP tasked with assisting the city's law enforcement efforts during the crisis.

Just over a week ago, Calgary police raided the home of Pastor Artur Pawlowski and arrested him before he left for Milk River to preach to truckers and farmers protesting COVID mandates.
It was his fifth arrest in two years — all of which have been related to COVID-19 restrictions, including feeding the homeless and opening his church for indoor services.
But the charges Pastor Artur is facing now are far more severe than anything he has dealt with before. They include trespassing, mischief over $5,000 and most concerningly, he is the first person ever to be charged under the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act.
He is currently isolated inside a filthy jail cell at the Calgary Remand Centre, a high-security correctional facility typically reserved for violent criminals.
Although he's alone and facing unimaginable conditions, Pastor Artur's supporters have not abandoned him.
Since his arrest, people have been gathering daily outside the jail to support Pastor Artur and his family.
After a recent freedom rally in Calgary, a large convoy stopped by the jail in a show of solidarity.
And while his home province of Alberta begins the process of rolling back COVID restrictions, he continues to be targeted for refusing to abandon his principles.

Last night students and parents met with our attorney and today we have a brave 13 year old decline to wear a mask or leave the classroom. The school called the police, who responded but would not intervene. We had previously inquired with OC Sheriff and were told they would not intervene because it is a civil matter, not legal, so I’m glad to see that they adhered to that today.
Now that we’ve won this battle today, we have more students who will do the same tomorrow. The legal group we’ve retained, The Gavel Project, will be filing suits against seven school districts this week.
To say that we’re done with this masking kids bullshit is an understatement.
