Attorney General Bill Barr testified before the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday morning:

AG Bill Barr: I personally believe that an important part in securing the southern border is to have a barrier system on the border. And I think that that will help in not only narcotics interdiction but also in suppressing human trafficking.

AG Bill Barr: The Office of the Inspector General has a pending investigation of the FISA process in the Russia investigation and I expect that that will be complete sometime in May or June I am told. So hopefully we will have some answers from Inspector General Horowitz on the FISA warrants.

AG Barr has said his original time-table stands and within a week he will be able to release the report to the public. Barr added during his testimony that officials will color code restricted information in the report so that the four categories are distinguished in the public report.

Barr told the members he asked Mueller if he wanted to review the four page summary, but declined. He also promised a redacted version within a week.

White House Plans To Target Remittance Payments

The White House is planning on targeting remittance payments made by illegal immigrants in the wake of an ongoing migrant flood at the U.S. southern border, a senior administration official told reporters Tuesday.

The plans to target remittance payments come amid a broader shakeup at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and future executive actions designed to curb illegal immigration. The situation at the southern border has escalated in recent weeks, with thousands of migrants arriving daily to claim asylum.

The White House plan to go after remittance payments falls in line with a proposal from former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is being considered to replace outgoing DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Kobach told Breitbart News on Tuesday that this will be an effective way for President Donald Trump to compel the Mexican government to take more enforcement action against Central Americans trafficking through their country.

Kobach told Breitbart, “The threat I propose is one that actually helps us if we follow through on it. That is the threat of ending remittances from the majority of people in the United States from Mexico who are here illegally,” adding “they don’t want to risk losing that massive flow of foreign capital. In most years, it’s their second biggest source of foreign capital.”

Republican Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) filed a $150,000 lawsuit against McClatchy News alleging conspiracy to derail Clinton, Russia investigation.

This comes after Nunes annonced this past weekend he has eight criminal referrals to Attorney General Bill Barr.

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., appeared to raise exceptions for the number of people who could be the subject of a criminal referral he plans to submit to the Justice Department in the coming days that focuses on the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation. 

The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee has been teasing a referral for months and previously predicted its delivery by the end of next week. 

During a Fox News interview Wednesday evening, Nunes walked back his prior certainty the referral would be ready by Friday due to the burgeoning challenge of ensnaring as many individuals as possible.

"The American people need to have confidence in the FBI and the Department of Justice. We are working on the referrals," Nunes said. "There's going to be many of them. There are going to probably at least be a dozen if not two dozen individuals, and as we continue to get more information and build these and build them out, we want to make sure that everything is finished before we turn them in." 

Affirming commentary by host Sean Hannity about preventing future underhanded tactics to undermine President Trump, Nunes said, "There are people who definitely lied and misled Congress, OK? If they don't go to prison, we are going to have a two-tier Justice Department, justice system in this country and it is not going to be good for the American people." 

Nunes has not named anyone who could appear in a referral, nor has he provided a specific number of people who would be targeted. 

But there have been clues beyond him saying that "many" people would be criminally referred. 

In February he said the GOP minority in the House Intelligence Committee offered up the names of roughly a dozen people they want to subpoena as the Democrats revitalize the panel's Russia investigation, although he said it was doubtful the Democratic majority would cooperate. Instead Nunes has looked to Attorney General William Barr to make headway toward completing an investigation begun last year by a joint GOP-led task force comprising the Judiciary Committee and the Oversight Committee. Key to this effort, which has been bolstered by intelligence panel Republicans, was investigators looking over roughly 15 transcripts of interviews conducted by the task force last year. 

In recent weeks, House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins, R-Ga., released transcripts of the private interviews of former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, his wife Nellie Ohr, former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, and former top FBI official Bill Priestap. 

Nunes has also railed against what he says is collusion between the Democrats and the Russians, pointing to use of the unverified Trump dossier by the FBI to obtain FISA warrants to spy on onetime Trump campaign official Carter Page as proof of an unraveling operation to undermine the president. That dossier, compiled by British ex-spy Christopher Steele, was funded in part by Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee. .

“House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, who has demanded President Donald Trump release his tax returns, claimed he had released his own returns in the past,” The Daily Callerreported Thursday. “But according to previous reports, Neal had not released these documents when previously asked.”

“Neal himself, however, has not released his own tax returns when the press requested them. He previously claimed early last month, according to The Washington Times, that he would release his own returns ‘down the road,’ but his returns have yet to surface. Chairman Neal’s office did not respond to the Caller’s request for comment.”

Bad News for Oregon:

Thanks to the help of two republicrats, democrats in Oregon have passed the National Popular Vote in the state senate. The bill passed on a 17-12 vote, with a mostly party line vote. 

The NAYs were 9 republicans, along with democrats Peter Courtney (senate president), Ginny Burdick (senate majority leader), and Betsy Johnson (moderate democrat). The AYEs were all of the democrats, along with two republican turncoats: Chuck Thomsen and Brian Boquist. Another senator was excused for the day.

Boquist has previously taken flack from pro gun activists for his role in helping to pass a gun control bill two years ago. His district encompasses a large rural area, stretching from outer western suburbs of Portland, down past Salem, and into the outer west areas of Corvallis. Thomsen represents rural areas to the east of Portland and into the Cascade Mountain Range.
