Unsurprisingly, Pelosi denied that her clapping was disingenuous. “It wasn’t sarcastic,” she told reporters Wednesday, according to People. “Look at what I was applauding. I wanted him to know that it was very welcomed.”
If there was any doubt that the speaker’s clapping was intentionally rude, a tweet from another Pelosi, daughter Christine, put that to rest:

Rand Paul calls out the Selective Prosecution against Trump et al:
Senator Rand Paul took to Twitter on Thursday to blast the Senate for allowing perjurers like James Clapper to get off scot-free while aggressively pursuing anyone associated with President Donald Trump.
The Kentucky senator declared that the Senate should investigate FBI methods and selective prosecution of Trump officials.
“Justice is supposed to be blind. Why is it that an admitted liar like James Clapper perjured himself to Congress and got off scot-free? But if you’re somehow associated with @realDonaldTrump, then they will pursue you relentlessly? This shouldn’t be a one-way street!” Senator Paul tweeted.

Clapper, the director of national intelligence from 2010 to 2017, managed to avoid perjury charges despite admitting that he lied to Congress while testifying about mass surveillance on March 12, 2013. He told Senator Ron Wyden that the NSA was not collecting “any type of data at all” on millions of Americans — which was a lie.
Senator Paul added that “the Senate should investigate FBI methods and selective prosecution of Trump officials. TIME FOR HEARINGS!”

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker stunned onlookers and lawmakers during an already-contentious House hearing Friday, when he tried to call time on the Democratic chairman after yet another line of questioning regarding Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.
The retort came after Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., first said he wanted Whitaker to appear for a private deposition after the hearing and went on to ask Whitaker whether he had been “asked to approve any requests or action” for the special counsel.
“Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up, so…” Whitaker replied as the hearing room broke out in gasps. “I am here voluntarily. We have agreed to five-minute rounds.”
Nadler, who even cracked a slight smile at the response, repeated his question, and Whitaker ultimately responded: “I have not interfered in any way with the special counsel’s investigation.”
The fiery back and forth follows a dramatic political prelude to the hearing itself, complete with threats by Nadler to subpoena the witness and threats by the DOJ to boycott. Democrats are acutely focused on Whitaker's oversight of the Mueller probe, in his acting AG status while awaiting confirmation of President Trump's attorney general pick William Barr.
“There has been no change in the overall management of the special counsel investigation,” Whitaker testified Friday, saying that he never offered any “promises or commitments” regarding the Mueller or any other investigation.
Nadler pressed Whitaker over whether he had shared information about the investigation with Trump, or any White House officials.
“I do not intend today to talk about my private conversations, but to answer your question, I did not talk to the president about the status of the investigation,” Whitaker answered. “Consistent with what I’ve already said, I have not talked about the special counsel’s investigation with any White House...

The Supreme Court is stopping Louisiana from enforcing new regulations on abortion clinics in a test of the conservative court’s views on abortion rights.
The justices say by a 5-4 vote that they will not allow the state to put into effect a law that requires abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.
Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s four liberals in putting a hold on the law, pending a full review of the case.
The four more conservative justices, including Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, would have allowed it to take effect. Kavanaugh wrote a dissent explaining his vote.
The law is very similar to a Texas measure the justices struck down three years ago. Roberts dissented in that case.

The Justice Department has opened an investigation into its treatment of Jeffrey Epstein, a multimillionaire serial sexual abuser, who signed a deal with prosecutors resulting in just 13 months in prison, the department said in a letter released Wednesday.
Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd sent the letter to Sen. Ben Sasse, Nebraska Republican, who had a demanded a probe into its handling of the Epstein case.
The Justice Department will investigate whether its attorneys “may have committed professional misconduct” in resolving the Epstein case.

Kellyanne Conway was physically attacked, and is pressing charges:
Kellyanne Conway told CNN’s Dana Bash that she was grabbed and shaken by a woman while out with her teenage daughter in a Maryland restaurant in October.
Conway described the attack on CNN this morning.
The assailant Mary Elizabeth Inabinett is pleading not guilty to the attack.
Mary Elizabeth Inabinett, 63, from Chevy Chase, approached Conway and started “screaming her head off,” at Uncle Julio’s, a Mexican restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland.
Her lawyer, William Alden McDaniel Jr., told CNN Inabinett was only exercising her First Amendment right to express her opinion when she grabbed Kellyanne Conway, shook her and screamed in her face.
This is the type of crap and abuse Republicans face today on a regular basis.
