Bill Currier, chair of the Oregon Republican Party, told Breitbart News the Beaver state’s Republican state senators used a walkout as a “last resort” against their Democrat counterparts’ attachment of an emergency clause to prevent a public referendum on House Bill 2020.
On Thursday, Oregon’s Democrat Governor, Kate Brown, authorized state police to find the state’s missing Republican lawmakers after they failed to show up for a vote on the aforementioned bill. If passed, the bill would tax carbon dioxide emissions. The bill’s text mandates implementation of a “carbon pricing program” to “combat climate change,” which it attributes to carbon dioxide emissions.
Oregon’s Democrats are “trying to bring the Republicans back to have that quorum so that they can basically control the outcome of something that has widespread dissent and opposition” across the state, said Currier.
House Bill 2020 would “basically ensure the devastation of Oregon’s economy,” added Currier, “which has already been attacked repeatedly with these bills to tax and regulate Oregon businesses into oblivion.”
Currier explained Oregon’s current Senate composition. “We have 30 members in the Senate,” he said. “Twelve are Republican, and we have one vacant seat at the moment. Eleven Senate Republicans did walk out after about ten hours of negotiation, and basically what they were asking for was for the Democrats to stop using what they call the emergency clause on all of their bills.”
“Just about every bill that’s been put forward has had an emergency clause attached to it which is supposed to be used — imagine this — in an emergency,” added Currier. “What the effect of that is, it denies the people having a vote on it because it prevents a referral to the voters. By putting that emergency clause on there, they’re essentially preventing the voters from voting on issues that they don’t want the voters to overturn.”
Currier continued, “We’ve had such massive state-wide protests and pushback against cap and trade here in Oregon … at town halls that the Democrats tried to sell out in the rural areas.” Rural areas, he stated, “are most negatively affected by this cap and trade because it puts the burden on them … in terms of fuel costs that aren’t borne by the urban areas, supposedly to achieve some sort of environmental benefit.”
“It’s really a ponzi scheme — government-sponsored — that installs an energy czar, if you will, in Oregon, who has almost unregulated authority to regulate businesses,” determined Currier. “Ultimately that’s just going to benefit a few people, some of the cronies, and it’s not going to help Oregonians. It’s going to raise the average cost [of living] for the average Oregonian by over a thousand dollars a year, not to mention the effect on folks that use a lot of fuel like truckers and loggers and others here in Oregon who are already hanging on by a thread because of these taxes and regulations.”
“The negotiation centered on one request — I guess you could call it a demand if you wanted to, because it was a negotiating point — and that was to stop using fake emergencies,” said Currier. “What it boils down to is, who’s representing Oregonians best: Those who are passing laws that hurt them, or those that are standing up [against] something they oppose, which is this cap and trade bill?
This is the tool that’s available to the minority, and it’s been used in other states. It’s been used by Democrats in Oregon. In fact, our own Governor Kate Brown used it in 2001. She advocated for it on behalf of Democrats.”
“What [Oregon’s State Senate Republicans] are doing is not unlawful, and it’s the only tool they have to protect the voters [and] protect the constitutional rights of the voters,” estimated Currier, noting how attachment of emergency clauses to bills prevents them from being put to to voters via referendum. “People can have a voice” via referendum if emergency clauses are removed from proposed legislation, he said, adding, “[Democrats] refused to do that. They refused to let it go before the people.”
“Who’s really standing up for Oregonians?” asked Currier. “The Democrats who are pushing legislation that significantly hurts most Oregonians or Republicans who are standing up and saying, ‘Look, this is a tool available to us to stop this from going through’ Republicans are standing up for the will and the voice of the voter.”
Currier recalled how Oregon’s Democrats used the emergency clause in June to pass legislation affording access to driver’s licenses for illegal aliens.
Pollak asked, “Why not take this to the voters and say, ‘Look what Democrats are doing. This cap and trade bill is terrible. The other policies they’re enacting are damaging and contrary to the commitments they made to the people. You need to vote these people out. It’s the only language these people understand. You have to vote the Republicans in so we can undo this damaging cap and trade system.’? Why is that not an option? Why not go to the voters next year and say it’s time to fix this mistake?”
Currier replied, “Republican senators are putting everything on the line. This is significant personal risk for them, not just political risk. In their own districts, their constituents are going to say, ‘Why did you walk out?’ This is a huge risk on their part in order to stand up for the voters, and say, ‘Enough is enough.’ If you want to think of it as peaceful civil resistance, you can. Nothing they’re doing in unlawful. It’s the only tool they have left.”

The Oregon statehouse was shut down Saturday due to a “militia threat” posed by protesters who were against a landmark climate change bill.
A spokesperson for the state Senate president told The Associated Press on Friday that the "Oregon State Police has recommended that the Capitol be closed tomorrow due to a possible militia threat."
On Saturday, right-wing militias could be seen protesting outside the statehouse as lawmakers were supposed to be inside voting on the climate change legislation, according to the news outlet.

Only two of the 12 Republican senators are needed to reach a quorum.
“We are not going to provide a quorum to pass a progressive, liberal agenda that damages the constituents from our districts,” state Sen. Tim Knopp (R) told the Statesman Journal.
He indicated that he and his fellow lawmakers had left Oregon.
“Send bachelors and come heavily armed,” Boquist said. “I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It’s just that simple.”
Several senators have claimed they left the state to avoid detection by state troopers, who have been ordered to retrieve them by Gov. Kate Brown (D). Police said that “outside” agencies are helping them keep tabs on the errant senators.
Members of the Three Percenters militia ― an anti-government extremist movement ― wrote on Facebook Thursday they would do “whatever it takes to keep these senators safe.”

Oregon’s state Republican party on Saturday and Sunday mocked state Senate Democrats for their concerns over a militia threat amid an ongoing partisan battle over a sweeping climate change bill.
“Heavily armed militia lays siege to Oregon’s Capitol as Senate Democrats cower in fear,” the party’s Twitter account snarked with a photo of regular-looking protesters in front of the capitol building.

Insider: Google Violates “letter of the law” and “spirit of the law” on Section 230
(New York City) — Project Veritas has released a new report on Google which includes undercover video of a Senior Google Executive, leaked documents, and testimony from a Google insider. The report appears to show Google’s plans to affect the outcome of the 2020 elections and “prevent” the next “Trump situation.”
The report includes undercover footage of longtime Google employee and Head of Responsible Innovation, Jen Gennai saying:
“Elizabeth Warren is saying we should break up Google. And like, I love her but she’s very misguided, like that will not make it better it will make it worse, because all these smaller companies who don’t have the same resources that we do will be charged with preventing the next Trump situation, it’s like a small company cannot do that.”
Jen Gennai is the head of “Responsible Innovation” for Google, a sector that monitors and evaluates the responsible implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. In the video, Gennai says Google has been working diligently to “prevent” the results of the 2016 election from repeating in 2020:
“We all got screwed over in 2016, again it wasn’t just us, it was, the people got screwed over, the news media got screwed over, like, everybody got screwed over so we’re rapidly been like, what happened there and how do we prevent it from happening again.”

The leaked documents appear to show that Google makes news decisions about what news they promote and distribute on their site.
Comments made by Gennai raise similar questions. In a conversation with Veritas journalists, Gennai explains that “conservative sources” and “credible sources” don’t always coincide according to Google’s editorial practices.

Project Veritas also obtained leaked documents about how Google determines what to put in their news section. One document, which is labeled the “Fake News-letter,” explains Google’s mission of creating a “single point of truth” across their products.
According to a study previously published in the Columbia Journalism Review, 86 percent of Google’s “Top Stories” come from just 20 news outlets. The most common being none other than left-leaning CNN. The audit found that CNN, New York Times and the Washington Post make up 23 percent of all referrals on their own.

On Saturday, after several months of this story being reported online, the Minnesota Star-Tribune finally reported that Ilhan Omar was married to two men at once and “possible her own brother.”
New investigative documents released by a state agency have given fresh life to lingering questions about the marital history of Rep. Ilhan Omar and whether she once married a man — possibly her own brother — to skirt immigration laws.
Omar has denied the allegations in the past, dismissing them as “baseless rumors” first raised in an online Somali politics forum and championed by conservative bloggers during her 2016 campaign for the Minnesota House. But she said little then or since about Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the former husband who swept into her life in 2009 before a 2011 separation.
The questions surfaced again this month in a state probe of campaign finance violations showing that Omar filed federal taxes in 2014 and 2015 with her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, while she was still legally married to but separated from Elmi.

Acting Department of Homeland Security Director Kevin McAleenan leaked the timing and location of an upcoming raid by immigration enforcement authorities in order to sabotage the operation, according to five current and former unnamed officials who spoke to The Washington Examiner.

Multiple outlets are now reporting that sources within the agency believe McAleenan was behind the leaks about the now-postponed plan to deport approximately 2,000 illegal immigrants from ten US cities.
The report that allegedly caused the president to postpone the operation was published in the Washington Post by a reporter who traveled on a government plane down to the border on Wednesday with McAleenan. It contained information that McAleenan and few others would have been privy to.
The Post also detailed McAleenan’s opposition to the operation.
“Leaking the locations and details to stop the operation from happening not only harmed operational integrity, but it put the safety and well-being of his own officers in jeopardy,” the third official wrote to the Examiner.
“That’s law enforcement sensitive information. You just don’t reveal that,” the second official said. “It gets people hyped up. It gets the NGOs activated, and then anyone wearing a jacket with the ICE name on it is really chastised. Cities are coming out saying, ‘Here’s how you can protect yourself against it.’”
