"Maxwell first grew close with the Clintons after Bill Clinton left office, vacationing on a yacht with Chelsea Clinton in 2009, attending her wedding in 2010, and participating in the Clinton Global Initiative as recently as 2013, years after her name first emerged in accounts of Epstein’s alleged sexual abuse.

In 2002 and 2003, flight logs reportedly show that Bill Clinton flew on 26 flight legs on Epstein’s private jet. In 2010, Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.
One friend of Maxwell’s, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described their surprise upon showing up at a dinner party at her Upper East Side apartment around 2005 to find Doug Band, then a top adviser to Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation, among the 8 to 10 guests. In 2006, a charity run by Epstein, C.O.U.Q. Foundation, gave $25,000 to the Clinton Foundation, the Daily Beast reported.
One person familiar with the Maxwell-Clinton relationship said that while Maxwell “was incredibly close” to Chelsea Clinton, “She had her own relationship with Bill Clinton and was very close to him.”
In 2012, Maxwell launched her own Ocean-focused charity, the TerraMar Project. A year later, the Clinton Global Initiative trumpeted a TerraMar initiative among the “commitments to action” announced at its annual meeting. The initiative was the Sustainable Oceans Alliance, which sought to ensure the United Nations included oceans in its Sustainable Development Goals.

The FBI feared that media mogul Robert Maxwell was a Soviet spy who tried to use his publishing empire to send intelligence behind the Iron Curtain, newly-released files have revealed.
The media mogul's attempts to publish papers from leading US universities in Russian repeatedly raised suspicions among leading academics.
Maxwell, who was born in Czechoslovakia, was building up his Pergamon Press publishing empire in the US in the late 1950s and 1960s when he was covertly investigated.
There were suspicions because Maxwell was allowed to enter the Soviet Union six times a year while most people struggle to get any access.
Maxwell, who later became a Labour MP in Britain and lived an extravagant lifestyle, made his millions from the publishing empire he set up after leaving the Army.
He died in 1991 after 'falling' off his private yacht off the Canary Islands after plundering his publishing group's pension fund.

Correction: Epstein’s passport was an Austrian one, but with a Saudi Arabian address.
The detail came out on Monday in a federal courtroom, where federal prosecutors said they had been made aware that a safe in Epstein Upper East Side townhouse contained a passport; the passport had a photo that appeared to be of Epstein, but it had a different name. While it was not initially specified which country issued the passport (it’s since been identified as an Austrian passport), eyebrows were raised when Saudi Arabia was listed as Epstein’s home address. The passport was issued in the ’80s and is currently expired.

'America' and 'American' Listed Among Words to Avoid at Colorado State University

Colorado State University has included the words “American” and “America” on its list of language to avoid because they are not inclusive.
The school’s Inclusive Communications Task Force compiled a list of words in its Inclusive Language Guide that serve to help those on campus foster “inclusion, respect, and social justice.”
The guide states that it is not about being politically correct but instead is there to help “communicators practice inclusive language” and make everyone on campus “feel welcomed, respected, and valued.”
CSU lists both “American” and “America” as non-inclusive words "to avoid," due to the fact that America encompasses more than just the U.S. By referring to the U.S. as America, the guide claims that one “erases other cultures and depicts the United States as the dominant American country.” The school suggests using “U.S. citizen” or “person from the U.S.” as substitutes. Among other words on the list are normal person, straight, gendered words, hip hip hooray, hold down the fort, war, starving, etc.
The guide does note, however, that the recommendations are not official policy.
The guide represents a growing trend in some parts of the country. As Tim reported Thursday, the city of Berkeley unanimously voted to change all official city documents so there are no gendered words.

Planned Parenthood abruptly fired its CEO on Tuesday because she apparently did not push abortion politics aggressively enough.
But new reports suggest there may be more to the story.
Two anonymous Planned Parenthood informants accused former CEO Leana Wen of mismanaging the abortion chain and refusing to allow others to control what she said.
One source told BuzzFeed News that Wen refused to use “trans-inclusive” language. The abortion chain apparently wanted her to say “people” can get pregnant and have abortions, not “women.”
Wen reportedly resisted their speech demands, saying the transgender language would “isolate people in the Midwest.”
“Oftentimes we wouldn’t know that, say an op-ed she wrote was posting or what she was going to say in a speech until she had already said it,” a source told BuzzFeed. “S— has been crazy.”

As transgenderism has risen in the national dialogue, so has the discussion about whether or “men” can get pregnant, given the repeated stories of biological women who have gone through pregnancy after identifying as male.
And other abortion proponents have been quicker to get on board with the idea that “men” can get pregnant. Back in May, for example, Planned Parenthood of New York City president Laura McQuade called pro-life laws “not just an attack on women,” but “an attack on anyone who can or might get pregnant, including transgender men and gender non-conforming people.”
At a recent 2020 Democratic debate, candidate Julian Castro took flak after saying he “absolutely would cover” abortions for transgender females, who are biological males and can’t get pregnant. His campaign later explained that he was talking about biological females identifying as men.
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont on Friday defended how his campaign pays its staff, while saying it was “improper” for workers who have griped about their wages to share their concerns with the media.
On Thursday, The Washington Post quoted a letter from the union members who work for Sanders to campaign manager Faiz Shakir complaining about their pay.
The letter said field staffers in Iowa “cannot be expected to build the largest grassroots organizing program in American history while making poverty wages. Given our campaign’s commitment to fighting for a living wage of at least $15.00 an hour, we believe it is only fair that the campaign would carry through this commitment to its own field team.”
