Note that even if convicted of the charges he would only serve 5 years.  That’s two years less than he has already spent imprisoned in the Ecuadorian embassy.  There’s thus no charges at all for publishing, and no threat to freedom the press.  This may be more of an extraction than an extradition.

He would be a star witness with regards to the assassination of Seth Rich and probably many other things. The Indictment Relevant excerpts:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Julian P. Assange, 47, the founder of WikiLeaks, was arrested today in the United Kingdom pursuant to the U.S./UK Extradition Treaty, in connection with a federal charge of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer.

The indictment alleges that in March 2010, Assange engaged in a conspiracy with Chelsea Manning, a former intelligence analyst in the U.S. Army, to assist Manning in cracking a password stored on U.S. Department of Defense computers connected to the Secret Internet Protocol Network (SIPRNet), a U.S. government network used for classified documents and communications.

Assange is charged with conspiracy to commit computer intrusion and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

…. The extradition will be handled by the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.

ASSANGE SHOUTS ‘RESIST’ AND YELLS MESSAGE TO TRUMP ADMINISTRATION Carries copy of Gore Vidal’s “History of the National Security State” while being dragged out.

Julian Assange shouted “resist” and yelled a message to the Trump administration as he was dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy by UK police.

“Resist… they must resist! You can resist! The UK can resist!** Is this what the Trump administration has come to? **UK must resist!” Assange is heard shouting.

(Dagny: That is pretty simple language for someone who is so eloquent and has had plenty of time to think about what to say….  He doesn’t seem all that unhappy about it.  By resisting he increased the news value of the story so it would get more coverage. )

And what of Embassy Cat ... aka James ... James Cat?

While it is unclear exactly what happened to Embassy Cat, multiple sources have indicated that it long ago left its home. The person closest to Mr Assange to comment on Embassy Cat, a member of his legal team, said Mr Assange gave the cat to a family member after the Ecuadoran embassy threatened to take the pet to a shelter.

“Ecuador also threatened to put Assange's cat in the pound,” said Hanna Jonasson in a tweet. “Incensed at the threat, he asked his lawyers to take his cat to safety. The cat is with Assange's family. They will be reunited in freedom.”

This USAF aircraft was flying over the Atlantic last night:

An Extender is a refueling aircraft, so it may have a reason to be circling over the Atlantic refueling other aircraft.  Still the call sign is interesting.  The extradition is being held up as some of the Brits seek to delay it.  Not everyone in Britain wants the star witness to testify.

The Leftists don’t want him to be sent to the US:

"What is expected to be an epic legal and political battle over whether to extradite Julian Assange to the U.S. began to take shape, with Britain’s opposition Labour Party urging the government Friday not to hand the WikiLeaks founder over to the Americans. If found guilty of the U.S. charges, Assange could get five years in prison.

His next court appearance was set for May 2 via a prison video link.

Extradition lawyer Ben Keith said the court will not assess the evidence against Assange to determine his guilt or innocence but will scrutinize whether the offense he is accused of in the U.S. would be a crime in Britain.“The most likely outcome is that he will be extracted to the United States,” he said.

Meanwhile…. Obama’s White House Counsel gets a Perp Walk of a sort minus the Media:

Greg Craig worked with Paul Manafort, but since he’s a long time Clinton-Obama fixer, the media ignored the story.

NewsBusters reported that the combined airtime allowed by ABC, CBS and NBC for Greg Craig’s indictment was a whopping one minute and 15 seconds.

NewsBusters pointed out that NBC didn’t even mention that Greg Craig worked for Obama and Clinton, rather, the network concentrated on Craig’s ties to Paul Manafort.

President Obama’s top White House lawyer, Gregory B. Craig, was indicted yesterday on very serious charges. This is a really big story, but the Fake News New York Times didn’t even put it on page one, rather page 16. @washingtonpost not much better, “tiny” page one. Corrupt News!

Washington (CNN)A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted Greg Craig, a prominent Democratic attorney who worked for two presidents, charging him with false statements and concealing material information in connection with work he performed for Ukraine. An indictment in the case against Craig, which originated in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, has been expected for several weeks, with Craig's own lawyers saying Wednesday they anticipated such an outcome.

Craig, 74, is the highest-profile Democrat to be indicted in a matter stemming from Mueller's work, which resulted in charges against numerous Republicans connected to President Donald Trump. The case is being handled by the US Attorney's office for the District of Columbia in connection with the Justice Department's national security division. The case is likely to bring renewed attention to the Justice Department's application of a once-obscure law applying to unregistered foreign agents.

And in other news!:

The Clinton people were actually so dense as to make a “Work Ticket” for computer services which read  “Hillary cover up operation work ticket archive cleanup.”

FBI notes of an interview with an unidentified Platte River Networks official in February 2016 (almost a year after the Clinton email network was first revealed) show that Platte River “gave someone access to live HRC archive mailbox at some point.” The same notes show that an email from December 11, 2014, exists that reads “Hillary cover up operation work ticket archive cleanup.” The interviewee said that the “cover up operation” email “probably related to change to 60 day [sic] email retention policy/backup.” The subject indicated that he didn’t “recall the prior policy.” The notes also indicated, “[Redacted] advised [redacted] not to answer questions related to conv [conversation] w/DK [David Kendall] document 49 – based on 5th amendment.

Judicial Watch President @TomFitton discussed the Trump coup in his Weekly Update: It was all based on this fraudulent dossier created by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign, secretly of course. It was known that the dossier had no credibility.

Democrat Party leaders continued their meltdown on Friday following Attorney General Bill Barr’s announcement that the Obama administration was likely spying on the Trump campaign during the 206 election.

In 2018 Clapper told Joy Behar on “The View” that the Obama administration was “absolutely not” spying on Trump during the 2016 election.

After Bill Barr admitted in senate testimony that the Obama deep state was spying on Trump James Clapper has suddenly changed his talking points.

But this week on CNN James Clapper said this, “I can’t speak specifically Alisyn to what the FBI did.”

As John Yoo said, “I would be worried if I were Clapper about all of these changing stories.”

Leaker Comey played dumb and said he doesn’t know what Barr is talking about.

With respect to Barr’s comment, I have no idea what he’s talking about when he talks about spying on the campaign and so I can’t really react,” Comey said Thursday at a Hewlett Foundation conference.

Comey got the memo from his partners-in-crime John Brennan and James Clapper because he also called Barr’s spying allegation “concerning.”

James Comey then went on to define spying in his own terms and defended the FBI and DOJ.

“The FBI and the Department of Justice conduct court-ordered electronic surveillance, “Comey said. “I have never thought of that as spying…and if the Attorney General has come to the belief that that should be called ‘spying’ – WOW!”

But I don’t know what he meant by that term — and factually I don’t know what he meant because I don’t know of any court-ordered electronic surveillance aimed at the Trump campaign and that’s the reason for my confusion,” Comey said.
